Review: The Magic Chair | The Search for Santa Personalised Book

The Greenwich Mummy Blog | Magic Chair: The Search For Santa Book Review

With Christmas being just under seven weeks away, now is the time to start making those presents lists, budgeting for the food, gifts and booze (if you drink)… oh and of course the family gatherings and work do’s. Luckily for our little family of four, Daddy P and I don’t drink so we will be able to save on that and I’m still on mat leave so we’ll be able to spend more on the presents instead. There’s a few more new babies in the family this year so the children’s presents are at the top of our agenda.

LO really loves books. He has done for a very long time and I like to think that it’s because it has been a part of his bedtime routine for as long as I can remember (practically when he was born) and we used to have quiet time where we would just snuggle together and read his favourite books back to back. We’ve been doing less of this since Baby Girl was born as she’s taken up a lot of my time but no more excuses, I need to re-introduce quiet time back into LO’s day. TV and Netflix has literally taken over our lives these past few months.

When I received an email from the folks at Magic Chair asking if we’d like to review their latest festive addition, I had to accept on behalf of LO. The Magic Chair has a large range of personalised books for children and the story I ordered for LO was The Magic Chair: The Search For Santa.

Book ordering & delivery

You start by entering your child’s name then selecting the gender. My favourite bit was creating LO’s character. I thought this gave the book that ‘special touch’ which other personalised books don’t offer. You get to choose a boy or girl character and change the skin tone, hair colour, hair style, eye colour and t-shirt colour. So cool. Once you’re done you can add your name and even a little dedication message which gets displayed at the back of the book.

The book only cost £14.99 with free UK delivery which is awesome!  Delivery was super fast which surprised me as usually personalised books can take up to anywhere between 5-10 days but ours was 5 days max. It arrived in a discreet brown cardboard envelope. Inside, the book was beautifully wrapped in red crepe paper with a Magic Chair sticker seal. The presentation so far was absolutely beautiful and I couldn’t wait to show it to LO.

The book

The next morning when LO woke up, I gave LO his lovely little gift. He was so happy to open it and see what it was. When he finally ripped off all the beautiful crepe paper, he knew straight away that the book was about him and after flicking through the pages, he knew it was also a book about Santa.

There’s thirty pages of beautifully illustrated pictures. The text is not too wordy either so younger children can follow the story easily. I really liked the character I made of LO – it he’s so adorable! Even though there were only a few styles to choose from I’m very happy that his character looks a lot like him. He even said “it’s Kaleb and Santa” when he saw the book. 🙂

Here are some lovely photos I took of LO and his new book. I won’t spoil it and tell you the story of the book but you can take a little peep at the story line by looking at the photos as I used my DSLR to take these pics instead of my temperamental iPhone.

My verdict…

It’s a big thumbs up from me and little man!

I think this personalised book would make a great present for a child this Christmas. There’s lots of personalised story books out there but I think this one has to be my favourite because the story is great, there’s a decent amount of pages, it’s very colourful and you get to personalise the character – it’s not just a boy/girl that you add the child’s name to. Plus, if you live in the UK it’s free delivery… woop woop!

I think I might get one for my nephew Lils as well as he loves books too but as he is Muslim, I will get him the Magic Chair: Adventures Around The World just to be a little more considerate for his religion. It’s not because his parents will mind because he gets to celebrate Christmas with us anyway and gets presents etc but we always need to be mindful of others.

Check out The Magic Chair website and have a look at the other books you can personalise. I’m sure you won’t be disappointed! If you do decide to order any, like with any other online shop make sure you order in good time as delivery is always a b***h around Christmas time.

Happy Weekend y’all 🙂 xx
