UK Blog Giveaway: My Self-Care Curated Beauty Box!

Hey beauties!

It’s been a while since I’ve been on here writing – been feeling a little underwhelmed and just not motivated to do anything. With Christmas a few weeks away, my mind and time’s been preoccupied on getting everything ready. Little man also came down with a cough last Friday which has disappeared now but in a panic, I ordered a Covid home test kit for the both of us. After all, I don’t want to go back to work without knowing I’m all clear and don’t want LO to cause his class to self-isolate so close to Christmas if he isn’t all clear.

My Curated Beauty Box Giveaway!

This month, I wanted to create a curated box that I could giveaway – especially with the festive mood it seemed like a good time to set a giveaway! I have to apologise for being a couple days overdue on this post, I should’ve scheduled it ages ago but not been at the best with my health since the end of last month. I’ve been having really bad eye-strain and can’t seem to sit in front of a screen or on my phone for too long. I’m going to have to get starter with my time keeping so I’m only getting about 2-3hrs screen time then that’s it.

Anyway… without further ado, here’s what you can get your hands on this December:

The Wandering Mother Blog | Curated Beauty Box Giveaway
Curated Beauty Giveaway – This is what you can win this Christmas!

What curated goodies are you giving away?

The Wandering Mother Blog | Curated Beauty Box Giveaway

  • Philip Kingsley Flaky/Itchy Scalp shampoo
  • This Works In Transit Camera Close-Up 3-in-1 moisturiser
  • Holika Holika Pure Essence Damask Rose hydrating sheet mask (full size)
  • This Works Deep Sleep Pillow Spray
  • Savour Candles Tobacco & Vanilla wax melt (full size)

What inspired this box?

S E L F C A R E

Coming out of a lockdown and back into tiered restrictions, London is lucky to be in Tier 2. We are able to go to the shops like normal, visit non-essential retail stores and eat out at restaurants again. My health has taken a slight turn (well, my eyesight mostly) but my physical health is not the best either. I haven’t done any exercise and I can feel that it’s taken a toll on my body. My mental health seems in tact for now but I can feel that mental-burnout is not a far away thought. I wouldn’t say I’m experiencing depression but I do feel sluggish all the time, not motivated or too tired to do anything and not wanting to work. The phrase “I can’t adult today” seems to be my favourite daily motto. Every now and then someone pulls me out and it’s usually by allowing myself some time to take care of myself and I’m sure I’m not the only one who feels the same.

This box was inspired by taking care of yourself physically, emotionally and mentally.

Treat your hair and skin to wonderful goodies! Soothe a sensitive scalp with Philip Kingsley‘s shampoo and nourish your winter hair with Palmers deep conditioning protein mask. Treat your skin to Holika Holika‘s super-drenching hydrating face sheet mask. Damask rose softens and hydrates the skin, and improves skin cell regeneration – that’s why you’ll always find rose essential oil in many anti-ageing skincare products. Cut down on time with The Works‘ 3-in-1 mask, primer and moisturiser. The creamy texture is perfect for winter skin and suits all skin types.

On a more emotional and mental level, I wanted to include products that can help you create a calming mood for your self-care time. The pillow spray by This Works is amazing – it contains lavender, vetivert and chamomile to soothe and calm your mind so you can sleep better. Before you spray your pillow, light up the super-indulgent wax melt by Savour Candles. All you’ll need is a tealight and oil burner if you don’t already have one. You can get these from Poundland, Asda and other homeware stores as cheap as £1.

Savour Candles
With my promise last month to deliver you a treat from one of my favourite black-owned small businesses, I’ve picked Savour Candles. They have THE BEST soy candles and wax melts I’ve ever experienced. The Caramel Vanilla Latte is f*ing AMAZING (not to mention constantly sold out!) but my second fave as to be the Tobacco & Vanilla – very musky and sensual. My candle’s burned well over 6hrs in total and I still have a decent amount of burn time left. Check out the official website and don’t forget the next Black Pound Day is January 2nd for exclusive discounted rates. Check their instagram page: @savourcandles for their 10% off discount code – order early as last dispatch for Christmas is December 18-22nd.

The Greenwich Mummy Loves...

Mummy loves the Aveda Shampure and its amazing aroma

avedashampure

I really can’t get enough of this stuff – the aroma is simply divine!

It’s made up of 25 pure flower and plant essences and is such a joy to use. I first started off with the Shampure shampoo and conditioner which was lovely. It made my hair smell nice all the time and the shampoo was milk but very cleansing. The conditioner was lightweight but did enough to quench the hair. I’ve currently switched my hair care to the Aveda Scalp Benefits shampoo and condition and using the Scalp Remedy as my dandruff has become more of a problem.

The Shampure composition oil (£23) is my current go-to product when I get straight out of the bath and cannot be bothered to moisturise with my body butter or lotion. I haven’t used my Shampure body lotion (£24) yet as I can imagine it to be lightweight so I am saving it for the warmer months ahead. Right now the only products that can moisturise and hydrate my skin are oils or body butters.

The Aveda gift sets are all out for sale now too! If you’ve never purchased their products before and want to give it a try, gift sets are the way to go because they’re value for money and you get a few travel-sized products to try in each set. Aveda also includes some full-sized products in their sets but it’s a little more pricey.

I’m getting ready to purchase mine at next payday. 🙂 I’ve got my eyes on two boxes from the range but don’t know which one to go for… I think the first set is the winner at the moment.

Champneys Skin Comforting Collection Review

I am really starting to love Champney’s products, maybe even more so than the Sanctuary spa products dare I say it! Well, at least for body products anyway, I think they are really good but for skincare I will continue to stick to the professional brands.

I was doing a bit of shopping and came across the Boots sale on Champneys products so got myself these products. They had a few of their other collections like the citrus one and the tropical one but I really love the smell of baby-powder scented things and this was the closest I could get to it. The body butter cost me £5.00 and the shower cream was about £3.00 which was a bargain for the size. I wish I had bought more but only had £10 on me at the time but fear not as I will return to get more (if they are still available!).

Shower Cream
It’s got a good amount of lather but not overly-bubbly which is exactly how it should be if it’s a cream-based product. It goes on really smoothing when I’m applying it straight onto my skin. It also doesn’t lather up much this way which I quite like. When I do fancy more bubbles, I simply apply the cream straight on to my body puff. If I feel like I need more of a body polish, I swap the puff for my exfoliating mitts which gives my skin a great “boost”. The smell is absolutely divine. I think it’s the milk proteins that gives it that lovely baby-powder scent. It reminds me a lot of my favourite Elemis Skin Nourishing Milk Bath. Once the cream is rinsed off, a slight hint of the scent lingers on my skin which is quite nice too.

If you’re not a fan of shower creams, the Skin Comforting range also offers a Bath Milk which looked amazing and would be perfect if you like to have bath soaks.

Body Butter
After I’m out of the bath or shower – I tend to have more baths than showers – I get ready to apply the wonderfully thick body butter. It feels really rich and heavy when you first get it out of the tub. I emulsify it slightly in my hands before massaging it into my skin. Despite the thickness of the butter, it goes into the skin really well and doesn’t feel heavy at all. You really get a good whiff of the shea butter and cocoa butter which is a gorgeous smell. Shea and Coconut are my all-time fave ingredients as they are ideal if you have dry/dehydrated skin. My skin felt soft and smooth and stayed moisturised all day long.

I hope you find the review helpful if you ever wanted to try this range or looking for something new to add to your bathroom collection. 🙂

The Body Shop Fuji Green Tea Collection

“Revive the body, Detox the mind…”

The Body Shop has just launched a new line of products; The Fuji Green Tea body range.

I love my matcha tea and green tea so it’s no wonder why I’ve been drawn to this range. It’s inspired by the traditional Japanese green tea ceremony. The actual leaves that is used to make this body collection has actually been picked from Mt. Fuji itself which is no mean feat, I’m sure! The Body Shop have only launched body products in this range so far and I’m not sure if they are planning to release a skincare range just yet.

The scent of the Fuji Tea body range is really light and refreshing but I can imagine that it could become overpowering if you’re not used to light and fresh fragrances. The scent really reminds me of Calvin Klein One which I used to love so much and wore on a daily basis. If you like light, fresh scents then the Fuji Green Tea range is good for you. Now that my taste in fragrances have changed, I prefer very mildly scented products so the argan oil and shea butter range is my favourite.

The Body Shop’s Three Step Guide

So The Body Shop recommends a 3-step guide to get the full detoxifying experience from the Fuji Green Tea collection.

  1. Cleanse & Detox
  2. Replenish
  3. Refresh
Step #1: Cleanse and Detox

Every good skincare routine should start with a thorough cleanse, whether it’s for the face or the body. If you prefer to have baths, enjoy a long, relaxing bath soak with the Fuji Green Tea bath tea (try it with the bath tea infuser for a mess-free soak). Follow up with the body scrub to exfoliate away dead skin cells and boost skin circulation by applying the scrub with a circular motion. Focus on areas of areas of concerns like back of the thighs to help reduce cellulite. Alternatively, if you prefer to have showers, opt for the shower gel and follow up with the scrub or combine both shower gel and scrub together for a double-action cleanse.

Step #2: Replenish

Keep your skin in tip-top condition with a body moisturiser as it helps to replenish the skin and keep it hydrated. Like the face, the skin on your body can become very dehydrated especially in colder weather as it loses moisture. House radiators can also contribute to drying out your skin. Depending on your skin type, the Fuji Green Tea offers a body butter, lotion and sorbet so you can choose the right level of moisture for you. The lotion would be right for you if you are looking for a lightweight product. For skin that needs more moisture, the butter would be right for you which has a light/medium texture. If you want a moisturiser that is very lightweight and fast absorbing, the body sorbet is right for you.

Step #3: Refresh

Keep yourself smelling fresh and clean with The Body Shop’s Fuji Green Tea perfume. The perfume is made from a blend of green tea, lemon and bergamot with top notes of camellia and jasmine for a fresh, light scent.

The Body Shop is also against animal testing which is one of the reasons why I like their products. Not only does it smell good but it’s also cruelty free. 🙂 You can find the Fuji range at your nearest Body Shop store or alternatively, check out their online website. You can also use the discount code from The Body Shop’s ad on this page to save money on your next online purchase.

Happy shopping!
